Project "GRATA AWARD" "Source of power"
06. 06. 2019. – 25.07. 2019.

The project “GRATA AWARD”, organized by the art gallery MuseumLV of Culture centre GrataJJ's, is the grand summer contest exhibition, which has already become a tradition and calls to participate professional artists, the quality of whose work meets the standards of the gallery.

Grata Award in visual arts has two monetary prizes, 500 € each. One of the winners is selected by representatives of the gallery and experts' committee, while the other will be decided by the visitors of the exhibition, who will have the opportunity to vote for their favourite artwork.

The patron of Grata award is the manufacturer of ecological houses Grata Eco House.

This year all the involved artists have been provided with canvas of the same size - 40x40 cm, to create a work especially for the contest, and these are the artworks that will be judged. Each artist has the chance to exhibit one or two thematically fitting works to create a context for the competition works that help to represent artists personality. The artworks will be exhibited without indicating the artists' names, until the very end of voting.

Exhibition occupies both floors of the gallery MuseumLV.

The theme of the contest of 2019 is the “Source of power”. Source of power is something that exists in the nature and is connected with underground world and water. A source of water connects two worlds. A spring of water brings refreshment. We can view the source of power as a metaphor – the very origin of artwork creation. It is something that, originating in depth, brings us vitality; it is something we can return to again and again to rejuvenate. Our uniqueness is revealed by the diversity of our roots, the very soil where they stem from is different and the source of power is unique for each of us, for the water varies, it is full of energy and inspiration and we ourselves change and are different every time we return to the source.

Vita Merca. Solo exhibition "Atklājot gaismu"
25.04.2019 - 01.06.2019

No 2019.gada 25.aprīļa – 2019. gada 1. jūnijam Kultūras centra Grata JJ mākslas galerijas MuseumLV pirmajā stāvā būs skatāma Vitas Mercas personālizstāde “Atklājot gaismu”.

Vivita Zuzule. Solo exhibition "My Transformations"
17.04.2019 – 18.05.2019.

Vivita Zuzule
Exhibition "My Transformations"

The exhibition will feature paintings painted on oil for many years, in which the artist plays with color, shape and symbols, showing the feelings and emotional state of the moment. The artist likes to focus on different genres of painting art: landscape, still life, portrait, not changing the means of artistic expression.

The artist's paintings are reflections of her soul, in which she reflects her inner experiences, adventures, self-seeking and many dialogues with herself, which helps to better understand the world around her.

In her painting, the artist focuses on exploring the feminine essence and searching for symbols, reflecting on various images of women in which the artist turns and sees a similarity with herself. For her works, the artist says: "In my paintings I can turn into anything - a famous singer or actress, a lost shoe or a girl from an ancient African tribe, or my daughter."

The artist likes symbolism, so she is looking for the relationships that match the artist's life.

The artist's paintings include both retrospective memories and impressions of the moment. Anyone who will look at the artist's paintings, perhaps, will also be influenced by his life experience and will only see what he knows and experiences.

The artist believes that man will be eternally alive if he leaves the spiritual continuation of his physical end - existence.

Vivita Zuzule was born in Jurmala in 1960. The artist says: "As far as I can remember myself, my childhood was in the world of color and fantasy, my sixth finger was my trusted brush or pencil.
Direction and interest in art was inspired by the great library of art and culture history books and numerous art exhibitions, admiring the most outstanding Latvian artists.”

Graduating from high school, the path to art continued in private artist studios with prominent artists: V. Bush, A. Bromults, A. Plaudis, G. Binde. All these artists gave the young artist an impulse to join the Latvian Academy of Art, which he graduated in the late 1980s, completing the Department of Pedagogy at the Latvian Academy of Arts.

The first work experience related to art, the artist worked in Jurmala as an artist/designer, later worked in Riga's Main Architectural Office, as well as in Jūrmala Pumpuri Secondary School as a visual art teacher.

The first personal exhibition took place in 2003 in Jurmala, at the Luda Berzins Museum.

The artist is fascinated by work with children, has been leading the art studio for many years in Riga.

Mareks Gurecskis. Solo exhibition "Sound prints"
08.03.2019 – 13.04.2019.

From 9 March 2019 - 13 April 2019 – in Grata JJ cultural center in the second floor of art gallery MuseumLV the personal exhibition of Mareks Gureckis "Sound Prints" can be seen.

The works of the recent years testify Mareks Gureckis’ trust in painting as an art category, where narrative fits closely with an aesthetics. Passion for the beautiful in shape and matter embodies the author’s desire to work again and again with his favourite motifs - piano and print textures.

"The footprints left by the sound vibrate on the head, in the heart, in the hands for long time. Similar to the piano strings, they continue to fill the space when the sound itself has long gone. The painter leaves imprints in the art, shaking up the perception and senses of the viewer. It is a sense of the distance, a sense of the world that sounds through the paintings"- the artist says about his works.

Marek Gureckis' painting is characterized by a passion for colour and light, which is worshiped by the artist as the god dwelling in planes and lines.

Dmitry Lavrentyev. Solo exhibition "The equilibrium time"
08.03.2019 – 13.04.2019.

08.03.2019 - 13.04.2019 Dmitry Lavrentjev dedicated his latest exposition to the subject of the eternal, unceasing movement of Time, exploring the endless becoming of creativity.

The artist is interpreting the summing-up within an open space of values which constructs the balance in the way the living organism is being constructed. In this context, the summing-up should be understood as the simple shifting of accentuation by means of which the author can investigate the nature of this space and its values.

The themes and motifs of the works presented here are drawn towards generalized formulae, and the craving for the conclusion is amazingly combined with the sophisticated masterly when it comes to the linear drawing, choice of texture and dynamics of colour.

The imagery contains the metaphors of the transformation of Time and the break-through of the forms and signs into the Future.
The Equilibrium Time is a metaphysical diary, an introspection welcoming endless points of view.

And yet an artist is forever right, isn't he?

Eduard Zentsik. Solo exhibition "Soul"
25.01.2019 – 02.03.2019.

Eduard Zentsik is a prolific Estonian-based artist of many faces. He’s developed radically different artistic personas, refusing to link his name to a single signature style, technique, or theme. Instead, Zentsik mixes genres and media and playfully subverts the traditions of old.

Zentsik’s oeuvre is as enormous as it’s diverse. Some of his endeavors, like the mildly macabre art brut series, focus on physical metamorphoses and flourishes of the flesh. Others, like the highly symbolic paintings made in the surrealistic canon, accentuate the spiritual aspects of his philosophy. Elsewhere, the artist indulges in formless Pollockian color drippings or flirts with digital media.
Zentsik’s paintings contain an open-ended space, a distinctly magical reality where entities, artifacts, and concepts from seemingly arbitrary eras and cultures serve their enigmatic purpose. No mythology or esoteric teaching is immune to the artist’s tactful manipulations - Zen in Zentsik goes hand in hand with Tao, Krishna, Christ, and the Twelve Olympians.

This is not an intellectual game, though. Those willing to unlock the code are likely (and welcome) to reveal metaphysical depths. Some may find his work pretentious, but Zentsik is not afraid to use self-aware decorative strategies and deceptively simple tropes to convey big ideas. Behind the images, there is a powerful coherent cosmology explaining the underlying natural order, the ulterior essence of everything. This is true spiritual art with a transcendental message, ostensibly co-created and inhabited by the spirit of the Creation itself (all artworks have always existed, you know). Zentsik’s mission, therefore, is to cut open two-way windows between our world and the fantastical realm through which mystical figures and phenomena on the other side meet our gaze. Aren’t these the proverbial Platonic ideas represented on canvas in vaguely familiar forms?
Eduard Zentsik was born 26.12.1975 in Sillamae, Estonia.
Painter, photographer, graphic artist, designer, author of installations, performances and musical improvisations. Organizer of youth exhibitions and projects. For over years of creativity had more than a hundred personal exhibitions and took part in numerous joint projects. Participant and winner of international Photographic and Art competitions. Numerous works are in private collections around the world.

This exposition showcases the donated works as well as other various works of these artists.

The exhibition takes place and is supported by the initiative of the culture centre GrataJJ, art gallery MuseumLV and the Latvian American Eye Center (LAEC), as it is a part of the LAEC 25th anniversary programme.

The calendar with all the donated artworks has been presented during the exhibition and is available for purchase with all the profit going to Grata Art Foundation. Educational group exhibition. "KINSHIP SCRIPTS"
21.06.2018 – 25.08.2018

Art gallery MuseumLV and culture centre GrataJJ began its venture on 26th of May 2017 by organizing two major visual art exhibitions that manifested the gallery’s beliefs about their peers’ art in all its various forms. Further on, this generation of artists, that had formed after the regaining of the independence of Latvia, brought their parents and children to the gallery. A subsequent interest about ancestry and descendants in art emerged - where do we come from, how do we continue onwards. The exhibition ‘’Kinship scripts” is a respectful gift that the MuseumLV team presents to its viewers and artists at the celebration of the 100th anniversary of Latvia, thus honouring the history of the lineages and the country, contemplating the inheritability of genes and believing in the power of people’s spirit.

KINSHIP SCRIPTS
Kinship scripts...This notion reminds of the highly popular digitalised data archive that is prominent among historians, however this time it is the title of a unique exhibition. It is an exhibition, that unites its artists for their significant quality – they all belong to artist families and/or acclaimed artist dynasties.

The title of the exhibition reminds of one of the current actualities of our society – the interest regarding the history of one's family, the relations between the members of dynasties among themselves and with the surrounding society in time and space. Exploring kinship often reveal wonderful stories and surprising family bonds. These revelations are significant to more than one family or bloodline...

We all come from childhood, from our family. It is where the foundation for our personality and the future life is laid, it is where the marvellous sense of belonging originates from, which can (and often does) transform into other forms of belonging – to one's lineage, land and country, thus becoming the guarantee of the future of the nation.

The inheritability of the artistic gene is well known in the history of world culture, and it is worth mentioning that occasionally the reviews of these specific manifestations may invite the venomous remark “nature takes a break on the children of geniuses”, or some similar but necessarily grumpy and withering comment. This inference has spawned in time when the fundamental quality in the evaluation of artworks was the resemblance, moreover – apparently high likeliness to a work of a prominent artist of that specific time. And what happens if a son is unable to comply with the boundaries drawn by the father? Then comes the line about taking a break…

There are many artist lineages in the 150 years brief history of professional art in Latvia that are well known. I will mention only a few surnames of this lengthy and interesting list – families of Annuss, Brekte and Cēsnieks, Ģērmanis, Iltners and Jurjāns, Rozentāls and Skulme, Stārasts, Strunke and Zariņš and so on…

Of course, there have been examples of exhibitions dedicated to particular artist dynasties in Latvian art. The exhibition “Kinship scripts”, however, aims to deliver a different perception, reminding of inheritability as a unique characteristic of our art history. Of course, not every lineage is represented here, however, the exhibition offers an idea of the vast amount and diversity of these bloodlines.
Undeniably, the exhibition will trigger questions that are yet to be answered. One of these issues is about artists that are twins. How intriguing: they are remarkably similar, they have grown up side by side, but they are nothing alike in art.

Especially significant is the fact that the exhibition enables one to verify that in the 20th century and even more so nowadays, already in the 21st century, the inheritability of art traditions can no longer be related to the repetition of formal or other qualities. Every artist develops and works as an independent person, which, whilst in awe for the art of their father or great-grandfather, follows the course lead by his own time and desires.

Agate Apkalne. Solo exhibition "Sorrow of the soul"
11.10.2018 - 10.11.2018.

Painter Agate Apkalne's latest works are united in a cycle called "Sorrow of soul". This title entails plenty of widely interpretable information, much like our conscious thoughts are only a little shell around that energy and force which pertain to the irrational and subconscious sources of human psyche.

In her new cycle, the artist takes the viewer to the depths of her personality, where storms interchange with serenity and quiet, melancholy with harmony, endless pursuits with joyful moments of revelation. The cycle can be perceived as a journey, permitting to explore oneself, whilst keeping in mind the Freudian concept that self-exploration changes a person. The hyperrealistic, virtuosic, psychologically and semantically saturated style of Agate Apkalne supposedly has not changed, as it welcomes its viewers, however the colouristics of "Sadness of soul" has leaned towards monochromic nuances and the paintings express their narratives through more laconic and powerful symbols. The motifs and characters can be found within this world – in the sky, water and within the inner circle of friends, however they can also be visions of spiritual experience, for example, the well known iconographic duel with a dragon or inner demons, the encounter of consciousness and subconsciousness, the Milky way as a road home – the whole life.

A witty and innovative aproach to the traditional technique of oil painting can be observed in some of the works of the cycle, for example, altering the surface of the painting with a tiny drill as well as the consistent usage of the dry brush. The display of works is complemented by digital prints, in which the artist reveals her pleasure to watch the play of light and its potential to reflect on the mutual bonds of people. The exposition entails a video made by Kristaps Kemlers, created on the basis of the dyptich painting "Gallery of the Universe".

The author can tell her gripping personal story about each painting of this substantial exhibition. However, she prefers the viewers to perceive, comprehend and immerse into the artwork according to one’s wishes and power of imagination. She admits: "For me the "Sadness of soul" is one thing, yet it may be a completely different thing to other person. In this cycle I have thought a lot about forgiveness and gratefulness. Everything that we require in our life has already been given to us, it is our hope chest, so often contemplated and sung about in folklore. We just are not able to appreciate it. The painting "Road to home" is like my whole life. Every single star is as a huge gratitude to everyone that has come into my life. In the painting I have materialised my thoughts about the people that I have interfered with. We are all connected and we do not exist without each other. With each our action in the given moment we change our mutual future."

Agate Apkalne lives, works and passes her skills on to her students in Latvia, however her paintings have encountered their viewers more often in Germany and elsewhere in Europe – in the solo and group exhibitions organised by Berline "TVDART Galerie". She has studied art in the Riga School of Design and Art, as well as in the Department of Graphic art in the Art Academy of Latvia, which she graduated in 2005, acquiring Master’s degree. Agate Apkalne has participated in exhibitions since 2000, with her previous solo show being "Private Space" in Riga and Liepāja in 2015.

Ilze Laizane. Solo Exhibition "Taste of summer"
04.09.2018 - 06.10.2018.

In the juried exhibition "Mystery. Ritual art" Ilze Laizāne received GRATA public vote prize of for her work "Enchanted forest", which will be a part of the artist's new exhibition "Taste of summer" in the art gallery MuseumLV.

The author invites visitors to view her recent paintings, the mood of which relates to summer, the mysteries of the sun and nature, secrets that are hidden in the sky and earth, wonders that unveil, from the awakening of life and resurrection to the floral madness of meadows. The exhibition will inspire its viewers to experience the senses that associate with summer – colour, sound, fragrance, taste.

Speaking of her artworks, Ilze Laizāne says:
"In every human being there is a source which is known as spirit or soul, that maintains one's inner serenity. This calm is the force that I use to create my artworks, attempting to influence my viewers in a positive way and allowing them to enjoy the energy and rhythm of the paintings. The exhibited works express emotions, brought about by unconscious ideas drawn from the surrounding nature and transformed via me into works of art. Nature is my source of inspiration in the process of creation, the depiction of nature in my paintings lets everyone experience its essence. The portrayed characters may be depicted as mythological, symbolic beings which are closely tied with nature. I pay special attention to the role of subconsciousness, dreams and imagination."

Ilze's artworks are painted in oil media, combined with graphic drawing. The painter works in realistic approach. Her paintings depict symbolic, figural compositions, and a true story, a secret hides behind their beauty.

Ilze Laizāne has graduated the Art Academy of Latvia in 2014, where she studied in Glass art, Graphics and Painting departments. She actively participates in the creative processes in Latvia and abroad - in Italy, Belgium, Austria, France, Germany and Lithuania.

Anda Poikāne. Solo exhibition "In the shade"
05.09.2018 - 06.10.2018.

ANDA POIKĀNE. IN THE SHADE

Fatigued by the summer heat we search for a place to draw breath and contemplate in shade. In the shadow under trees, under flowers, in the shadow of a playful, delicate horse, in the shadow of summer that turns into a September afternoon. The exhibition is devoted to meditation, reflected in unique human-sized terracota sculptures, impressive three-dimensional paper shapes, drawings and collages.

The tired one seeks a place to recline. It has been thus for thousands of years - in the search for shelter from the sun, from the wind, from anxiety. “What causes quarrels and what causes fights among you?” (New Testament James 4:1). When the weary one looks for a shade comes the moment of truce.

Sculptor Anda Poikāne's exhibition Shade is concieved as a visual event to be experienced by viewer, as it is not just a show of the accomplished works but rather an invitation to submit to the senses, fostered by the creations, and to contemplate about life and time in the search of the Great Truth. It is a gripping game, where the visitor of the exhibition enters the world created by the artist and becomes the main hero. It's a shade or a fragment of a larger fragment. We perceive many things and phenomena in bits, as it is difficult to grasp connections and bonds, especially if the distance is not sufficient for observation. But even if we believe to comprehend the Great Truth, that is only a detail as well, for only the chosen can comprehend the complete, where the fragments melt together and merge.

Anda Poikāne's exhibition is one of the ways to observe this world. Everyhing is interwound there – three dimensional shapes with drawings, videos with sculptures, mobile objects with stationary, large with tiny, silence with sound, colour, light and perceivable depth. It is a place to meet the like-minded, for the magic of being together and collaboration is the true excitement of the exhibition. Such a place is like a canvas where a painting is created by composing the proportions.

Juris Germanis. Solo exhibition "Women and nature"
26.07.2018 - 01.09.2018.

JURIS ĢĒRMANIS. WOMEN AND NATURE

Juris Ģērmanis was born on 16 June 1941 in Riga. Studied at Jānis Rozentāls Riga Art Highschool (1952-1960). In 1966 graduated from the Latvian Academy of Art, Department of Painting. Member of the Artists’ Union of Latvia since 1975. In 1998 he received Master of Arts degree.

He has worked in art pedagogy for many years. Has actively participated in the work of the Artists’ Union of Latvia as a Board member of AU.

Since 1967, he has regularly participated in the exhibitions both in Latvia and abroad. The artist’s works are located at the Museum of the History of Riga and Navigation, the Latvian National Museum of Art, the Museum of the Artists’ Union of Latvia, Talsi Regional Museum, Cēsis History and Art Museum, as well as in the private collections in Latvia, the USA, Australia, Poland, Finland, Sweden, Germany, etc.

The exhibited works were created between 2000 and 2018 and cover two important themes of the artist’s creation - the female figure and the landscape. The exhibition “Women and Nature” laconically marks the sources of the inspiration of Juris Gērmanis during his creative life and they are still topical.

First of all, Juris Ģērmanis considers himself a figure painter. There have been created both the portraits of many people known to the public and the psychological portraits rich in moods, but above all – the women. The image of a woman as the main source of the inspiration for the artist – spirit of the moods, plasticity of forms, going more deeply into the individuality of each personality – in both portraits and nudes.

The second theme is related to landscape painting in plenaries in the nature of Latvia - sultriness, wind, rain - it all fits into the process of realizing the beauty of the moment and its manifestation in art. Work in the plenaries for many years characterizes the artist’s handwriting - concentration and ability to work creatively here and now, capturing the magic of the moment. Technical virtuosity and a sense of colour given by nature helps to convey his vision accurately to the viewer.

The artist glorifies not only the magnificence of Latvian nature and people, but also works abroad. In the exhibition will be possible to see paintings made in Morocco what is a separate theme that highlights Juris Gērmanis' art from another perspective. Oriental exotics in the eyes of Nordic man.

The real environment and the people who are painted from nature are always important to Juris Ģērmanis. There are three important aspects in the works - tonal harmony of colours, composition and exact drawing - which the artist has mastered at both Jānis Rozentāls Art School at the artist Arnolds Griķis and Latvian Academy of Art at the artists Ārijs Skride, Kondrāts Ubāns, Indulis Zariņš and Eduards Kalniņš under guidance of which he also elaborated his diploma paper. The artist has still remained loyal to the qualities of the Latvian School of Painting.

GRATA PRIZE exhibition "Mystery. Ritual Art"
21.06.2018 – 25.08.2018.

GRATA AWARD IN VISUAL ARTS
Exhibition "Mystery. Ritual arts"

With this project the culture centre GrataJJ is starting a tradition by founding an award in visual arts, thus encouraging artists to participate in an annual summer exhibition that hosts representations of various art genres. A surprise for the visitors - a chance to enjoy the artworks of their beloved artists all at once.

In Latin "grata" means "that which is welcome", "that which is accepted with gratitude."
The culture centre GrataJJ and the art gallery MuseumLV offers two separate prizes of 500 Euros. The first winner will be chosen by the gallery and the prize will be awarded during the opening of the exhibition. The second prize will be awarded by the viewers on July 26.
The exhibition was an open call to the artists, and as a result it will host a wide range of visual artworks – paintings, graphics, installations, ceramics and works of sculpture.
The artworks showcased in the exhibition will be anonymous – each participant will be assigned a number, thus enabling the viewers to select their favourite artworks impartially until the end of the voting period on July 26.

Occasionally the process of creating an artwork overlaps with the nature of a ritual. In other cases – art and ritual is the same thing.
The creation of an artwork does not have to have similarities with ritual actions, because it is a process that demands patience and scrupulosity, and by the end of which the artist opens a portal to a new world that has been inaccessible to others before.
The opening of the exhibition is conjoined with the ritual period of summer solstice before the Līgo fest, or Midsummer night, which can be perceived as our Latvian mystery. How do we view this ancient inheritance, through the guidance of an artist’s experience?

More than 70 artists participate in the project, for example, Agate Apkalne, Andrejs Ameļkovičs, Laima Bikše, Artūrs Bērziņš, Rihards Delvers, Lilija Dinere, Roberts Diners, Laura Feldberga, Ojārs Feldbergs, Agnija Ģērmane, Agija Jansone, Jūlija Jeresjko, Inga Jurova, Matiass Jansons, Daiga Krūze, Roberts Koļcovs, Kristīne Kvitka, Dita Lūse, Anita Meldere, Silvija Meškone, Aleksejs Naumovs, Laura Pīgozne, Anda Poikāne, Ilona Romule, Skuja – Braden, Kalvis Zālītis, Nele Zirnīte and many other brilliant artists.

Daina Dagnija. Solo exhibition "Retrospective. Life for art. Art for life."
16.03.2018 - 06.05.2018.

Daina Dagnija is a legendary and prominent figure in the context of both Latvian and international visual art – part of her life and creative endeavours have taken place in the US. The tipically Latvian colouristic approach has merged and mingled with the world art tendencies in her creative work for many decades. In 2017 Daina Dagnija celebrated her 80th birthday. The retrospective will showcase the creative life of Daina Dagnija, ranging from the works of her youth in the US to the most recent works, created in Riga.

The notion behind the retrospective of Daina Dagnija is to depict the fate of a creative individual in the context of the turning points of the ages. A significant Daina Dagnija's contribution to the Latvian art is the interpretation of the national mythology in visual arts. For decades the artworks of Daina Dagnija have been imbued with the themes of folksongs, magical chants, and Latvian national history in the widest range of stylistic approaches.

The exposition is arranged chronologically; the oldest artwork was painted by the artist at the age of 16, and the newest works will also be up for viewing.

Free entrance.

"Our thinking is arranged in such a way that there is a natural affinity to find a centre in all things and places, which amalgamates the most important and worth paying attention, well known and indisputable truths.

I urge you to go away from the centre to discover another reality that gives inspiration, dreams, imagination, adventures, personal feelings - these are territories that no one has described in the guides and there is no generally accepted point of view in their regard.
It is not a movement in a geographical sense, but a sense of understanding of processes that take place in our or another city, in life, in art.
I am interested in the words that are unspoken, beyond the boundaries of the form. Sometimes the painting is a complex sentnce with many epithets and circumstances. Sometimes - good luck! - there is a simple, unextended sentence of 3 pure words that tell everything."

Artūrs Bērziņš. Solo exhibition "Great loneliness"
02.02.2018 - 10.03.2018.

Arthur Berzinsh’s exhibition "Great Loneliness".

The exhibition "Great Loneliness" reflects on various types of populism, that manipulates with human ego through inborn or socially determined characteristics. These substitudes of values buys us up wholesale. And the price each of us have to pay is a great loneliness of a western human.

Artist’s works oscillates between seeking for seriousness in matter and game approach in form – ambivalence between idealism and irony, that is characteristic of metamodernism. As usual in Arthur Berzinsh’s works, evident message of images most probably is deceptive and contains double bottom with an opposite meaning - just like everything that surrounds us in the age of informative war, where a man is a tool for another man.

The exhibition will include paintings, graphics, installations and even eatable objects, that shows parallels with all the information we consume. High culture is being superseded by easy-weighted surrogates. Primitive information we choose changes our mind in the same way as fast food changes our body.

Andrejs Nadeždinskis. Solo exhibition "Golden spider web"
30.01.2018 - 10.03.2018.

Andrejs Nadeždinskis "Golden Spider Web"
From 01.02. in Grata JJ cultural center in the second floor of art gallery MuseumLV the exhibition of Andrejs Nadeždinskis “Golden Spider Web” can be seen.
Andrejs Nadeždinskis’ works combine the art of jewellery, sculpture and graphics. The material of artworks is worth of admiration - spider webs and gold.
Ten years ago, the spider webs arouse artistic interest for Andrejs Nadeždinskis. Science still fails to explain how and why the spider builds the web. Each web is unique, its design depends on the weather, the season, the age of the spider and the mood. If we compare the proportion of dew drop mass to the thickness of the spider web, the network would be able to stop the plane on another scale.
For several years, Nadeždinskis went on expeditions in Latvian nature, explored spider webs, revealing the way how they can be moved and conserved, preserving the natural drawing of the web. This process is very complicated and expensive.
Finally, spider webs are gilded, and the artist creates decorative compositions from them, becoming a co-author of the natural phenomenon. Gold helps to highlight the graphics of spider’s web in natural light.
Andrejs Nadeždinskis’ compositions are unique - the applied technology is original, discovered by him. The golden spider web in Nadeždinskis’ performance could become an extraordinary and valuable gift to a human who sees the world without prejudice.
