Personālizstāde. Ilze Preisa. "Metaforiskās spēles"

Solo show. Ilze Preisa. "Metaphorical games"
25.01.2023. – 22.03.2023.

Symbol is the key word for Ilze Preisa's artistic practice, which includes painting and graphics. This concept can be applied to all the elements we encounter in Preisa's art - the depicted objects and the colors used. They are combined in compositions full of surreality, which encourages the viewer to indulge in the excitement of translating the content of the works. Ilze Preisa uses Greek myth and biblical motifs in her works, but without setting specific boundaries for the understanding of the offered symbols. Often, the characters of biblical plots and ancient mythology in the modern context become accurate exponents of the current ideas of the era. The presence of mythological motifs, which we encounter in the works of Preisa, is a common phenomenon in modern art, indicating the timelessness of mythological themes. The works are dominated by references of the world's cultural heritage, but highlighting this or that plot, the artist emphasizes personal stories that are important to her. Through mythological characters, the artist talks about human nature, human qualities - passion, betrayal, anger, love. Human nature does not change. Consequently, the associations created by these images are perfectly useful for highlighting one or another aspect of human nature.
In the art of Ilze Preisa, the iconography includes a wide variety of images - a bull, a symbol of power and the strength of the earth, which causes tension with its presence of power, a dress as a symbol of transformation and disguise suggests with its irritating energy, exotic birds, which are beautiful and scary at the same time, the beautiful Medea, whose head is decorated the elegant snakes that repel and tempt at the same time, the curtain that covers the unknown space and encourages you to make a decision - to open it to view or not, cats with wings - the effective symbols of power. A significant element in almost every work of this exhibition is the black-and-white floor arranged in a checkerboard pattern, where we recognize well-known environments in the history of art, from Renaissance rooms to today's modern rooms. This element tends to combine the works of the exhibition into one story consisting of many continuations.
An important element of Ilze Preisa's art is color, which the artist organically incorporates into her theory of symbols. It is almost impossible to determine which of the elements used in artistic practice more accurately expresses the symbolic message of Preisa's artworks - color or the depicted object. Ideally, they complement each other and live in perfect symbiosis.
I.P.: "The series of works Red/Black/White was created by reflecting on the events of recent years, what is happening in the world, around us and in Me.
I chose these three colors because, in my opinion, they best allow me to express this story, reveal my feelings and show my perspective on it. They are strong colors with versatile symbolism in art and culture. Colors that will always contrast with each other. Applying this spectrum of three colors and combining them in different variations, a different story is formed every time. This is my conversation with the viewer".
The exhibition exhibits lithographs made by Preisa, in which the artist continues the themes realized in the paintings, but thanks to the technique and black and white aesthetics, other intonations are formed. I.P: "In these works, I seem to rest myself, in this way also resting my mind from the saturation of the world's "colors".
Art scholar Diana Barčevska
In the exhibition "Metaphorical games" five musical compositions of the Swedish musician and composer Fredrik Carlquist (clarinet, saxophone) are played, which were inspired by the paintings of the painter Ilze Preisa. This music was played for the first time in Barcelona, at her exhibition “Metaphorical Space”.

On November 12, Saturday, the lecturer of our gallery, Yulia Osipova, will talk about the Spanish Impressionists, their activities and the history of their movement in this country. At the end of the evening, a surprise awaits you - a small masterpiece that you will create with your own hands, using colors, to take home as a memory and impression of the encounter with impressionism.

When: November 12, Saturday
Time: 16:00.
Where: MuseumLV Gallery of Grata JJ Cultural Center
Participation fee: 30 euros. All materials are included in the ticket price. Subscription for 2 lectures - 50 euros, 5 lectures - 130 euros. The language of communication is Russian, Latvian, the language of the lecture is Russian.

Tickets can be purchased at the gallery, as well as
https://www.bilesuserviss.lv

The Spanish followers of the great Impressionists were not only well educated, they went through the art schools of the leading European capitals and truly loved their homeland. It was this combination that so clearly distinguished the Spanish Impressionists. Mariano Fortuny, Santiago Rusinol, Ramon Casas, Ignacio Zuloaga and, of course, Joaquin Sorolla are no less significant representatives of impressionism than their French counterparts.

During the lecture, you will find answers to questions such as:
- Why did Mariano Fortuny become an idol for young artists?
- How did Santiago Rusinol go from a bright impressionist to one of the leaders of Catalan Art Nouveau?
- Who played a key role in the opening of the popular artistic cafe "Black Cat" in Barcelona?
- Why is Ramon Casas the Spanish Gustave Caillebotte?
- Who was the first graphic designer and author of advertising posters?
- Which of the Spanish Impressionists was fantastically popular in Europe and America?
- Why is Ignacio Zuloaga suspected of falsifying paintings for the Russian collector Ivan Shchukin?
- Why was one of the streets of Valencia named after Joaquin Sorolla during his lifetime?

In November, 4 more interesting lectures are waiting for you about the history of impressionism in France, Spain, Russia and the USA.
See you at the MuseumLV gallery on November 12!

Lecture course at gallery MuseumLV "Great collectors and collections"

Lecture course at gallery MuseumLV "Great collectors and collections"

We are starting a new lecture course in the gallery MuseumLV. As always, we invite you to meet our lecturer Julia Osipova on Tuesday evenings to get to know the exciting world of art a little closer.

5.04.

Paul Durand-Ruel and his impressionists.

A person who played a major role in the emergence of the term "contemporary art" and the trade in art dealership as a kind of activity. Thanks to him, Impressionism emerged, and artists such as Monet, Cezanne, Degas, Renoir, Pisarro were literally able to survive and have the opportunity to create their own masterpieces of painting.

19.04.

Ambrose Volard – conductor of art.

20th century art became such only thanks to Ambruzzo Volar - one of the most influential art dealers in Paris at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, a collector, art dealer, acquaintance, friend and patron of many masters of that time. The man who opened the world to Gogen, Van Gogh and Cezanne.

26.04.

Pavel Tretyakov - a collection of a lifetime.

Great collector and gallery owner, trader, businessman, philanthropist. All his life he collected paintings by Russian artists. Having collected one of the largest collections of Russian art and a whole gallery of life portraits of his outstanding contemporaries, he presented a unique collection to his hometown. Having chosen the goal, he went to it without deviating from the intended path.

3.05.

Sergei and Petr Shukini - collections of people in love with art.

The Shukin family owned one of the largest collections of works of art from around the world, marking the beginning of the collection of French modernist paintings at the Hermitage and the Pushkin Museum, as well as the Shukin Museum.

Sergei Shukin had three more brothers - the eldest Peter and two younger ones, Dmitry and Ivan. And they were all passionate collectors, their collections were of an equally high standard.

They were very different people, but they were all united by a love of beauty and severe trials of destiny, so strong that not everyone could stand them.

10.05.

Ivan and Alexei Morozovs - collectors from the family of merchants.

The Morozov brothers had one of the richest collections of French Impressionists and Post-Impressionists in the world. At the beginning of the 20th century, both artists and gallery owners in Paris were looking forward to the arrival of Russian millionaire collectors in the capital. They collected the most iconic works of Picasso, Matisse, Gogen and Van Gogh.

17.05.

Peggy Guggenheim is synonymous with the success of contemporary art.

The main patroness of artists of the twentieth century and a passionate collector, who has collected the best art collection of the first half of the last century, which includes works by Picasso, Pollock, Brancusi, Miro, Rothko, Giacometti and Duchamp. She was a human who actively and lovingly promoted abstract art, surrealism, and other innovations in 20th-century art. Without her, this century of painting would be completely different.

7.06.

Georgi Kostaki - educated in avant-garde art.

Once in love with bright colors and bold forms, driven by intuition and passion, he made collecting avant-garde works the meaning of his life. Kostakis's collection is unique: there is no such collection of Russian and Soviet avant-garde in the Tretyakov Gallery, the Russian Museum, the Pompidou Center or the Guggenheim Museum. He is often compared to the main collectors of Russia - P. Tretyakov and I. Morozov, but his creative path was more unusual.

Lecture course at MuseumLV gallery "Teacher - Student"

Who taught Korovin, Botticelli, Van Dyck and Titian? Can a gifted "nugget" succeed on his own, or is a guiding creator needed? Can a brilliant teacher create a brilliant artist from an ordinary student?

In Russia, Ilya Repin - one of the pillars of Russian painting - manifested itself especially clearly in realism. But his students - V. Serov, K. Makovsky, N. Feshin - became the founders of Russian impressionism and conquered Europe.

In Florence, the adventurous artist Filippo Lippi little Sandro Botticelli considered a talented artist. Botticelli, in turn, taught painting to his son Lippi. So much so that they still argue about the authorship of some works!

In Antwerp, a boy named Anthony van Dyck entered the workshop of a famous Flemish artist. From that moment began an incredible story of work and lifelong friendship.

In Venice, a detective story unleashed about the authorship of the incomparable artists G. Bellini and A. Mantegna. And later, their students made a revolution in painting. One brought the color to the absolute, and the other left to conquer Spain.

To Your attention - the most striking examples of the fateful meetings of famous creators.

March 1. Repin - Serov - Makovsky - Kustodiev - Malyavin - Somov - Feshin. Realism - Impressionism - St. Petersburg - Moscow - Paris - Slava Mamontov.

March 15. Filippo Lippi - Sandro Botticelli - Filippino Lippi. Italian Renaissance - Florence - Medici dynasty.

March 22. Rubens - Van Dyck - Jacob Jordaens. Baroque - Antwerp - Flemings - innovators.

March 29. Giovanni Bellini - Andrea Mantegna - Titian - El Greco. Early Italian Renaissance - Republic of Venice - Padua - Madrid - Toledo.
