Alise Mediņa (born 1984) is a Latvian painter, living and working in Riga.
Alise is active in exhibiting her works for the last 10 years.
Exhibitions are the driving force behind her creativity and talent development - at least twice a year Alise shows her recent work to public and it is the „deadline that makes me move”.
Alise studied in Rozentāla art school and continued her studies in painting in Art Academy of Latvia.
Besides oil painting Alise has studied ceramics, her mediums are porcelain and raku burning.
Alise started her creative education in pre-school age, when her mom sent her to art classes, then continued by inertia to art school and then Art academy.
Alise loves what she does and believes that it is a right place for her.
She continuously and purposefully improves her skills and that has resulted in possibility to paint and live with just art.
Alise has tried other jobs for a short time during her study years, but the turning point was the first Jarmarka (Christmas market in Art Academy), when her art was sold and made her to believe
that she can be a professional artist.
Alise does not want to terrify or make provocative art that leads to negative feelings. Her art is relaxing and calming, celebrating beauty and life.
Painting is a form of her existence, often without any reason behind. „it is like singing in a shower, you don't think why you do that, just do and that's it.”
The other place Alise finds attractive for her art is Paris, where she has been in residency.
Paris is depicted in her paintings and romantic European feel is dominating in her paintings.
Alise recently has become a mom and according to herself, this might affect her themes in paintings.
All-in-all paintings by themselves should have energy to reflect and communicate to its viewer.
And I hope that will be a pleasant experience.

Eduard Zentsik was born 26.12.1975 in Sillamae, Estonia.
Eduard Zentsik is a prolific Estonian-based artist of many faces. He’s developed radically different artistic personas, refusing to link his name to a single signature style, technique, or theme. Instead, Zentsik mixes genres and media and playfully subverts the traditions of old.
Zentsik’s oeuvre is as enormous as it’s diverse. Some of his endeavors, like the mildly macabre art brut series, focus on physical metamorphoses and flourishes of the flesh. Others, like the highly symbolic paintings made in the surrealistic canon, accentuate the spiritual aspects of his philosophy. Elsewhere, the artist indulges in formless Pollockian color drippings or flirts with digital media.
Zentsik’s paintings contain an open-ended space, a distinctly magical reality where entities, artifacts, and concepts from seemingly arbitrary eras and cultures serve their enigmatic purpose. No mythology or esoteric teaching is immune to the artist’s tactful manipulations - Zen in Zentsik goes hand in hand with Tao, Krishna, Christ, and the Twelve Olympians.
This is not an intellectual game, though. Those willing to unlock the code are likely (and welcome) to reveal metaphysical depths. Some may find his work pretentious, but Zentsik is not afraid to use self-aware decorative strategies and deceptively simple tropes to convey big ideas. Behind the images, there is a powerful coherent cosmology explaining the underlying natural order, the ulterior essence of everything. This is true spiritual art with a transcendental message, ostensibly co-created and inhabited by the spirit of the Creation itself (all artworks have always existed, you know). Zentsik’s mission, therefore, is to cut open two-way windows between our world and the fantastical realm through which mystical figures and phenomena on the other side meet our gaze. Aren’t these the proverbial Platonic ideas represented on canvas in vaguely familiar forms?
Painter, photographer, graphic artist, designer, author of installations, performances and musical improvisations. Organizer of youth exhibitions and projects. BIOGRAPHY
Sergejs Djomins was born on April 19, 1974, in Rīga, Latvia, to lawyer Aleksandrs Djomins and economist Ludmila Djomina. The greatest impression in Sergejs’ life was left by his grandfather, Anatolijs, who was a career military officer. Sergejs warmly remembers visiting his grandfather, particularly during the summer, when he could run free in the man’s little garden in Ziepniekkalns.
Sergejs remembers: ‘I started to go to school at age seven. It was a school for children with special needs, kids with physical and mental disorders. I had been diagnosed with scoliosis, and my parents were told to send me to a boarding school, wh ere I would get all of the necessary assistance. I spent three years there. None of the treatments helped, but I enjoyed myself. I was the best student and athlete, and we were fed very well. At the age of 10, I returned to Rīga and went to a normal high school. I was very disappointed to find that I was among the worst students there. By my graduation in 1991, however, my grades were normal. I was interested in history, so I entered the University of Latvia’s Faculty of History and Philosophy. After four years, I didn’t want to pursue a master’s degree, and there wasn’t much of a chance to find a job, because there is still aesthetic racism in Latvia. Who would offer a job that would be tempting to an ambitious 21-year-old? History was no longer of that much interest to me, and I didn’t think that it was the only possibility in life. The financial situation of my parents allowed me to continue my studies, and I chose to become a jeweller. Those were my first steps in the colourful world of art. I was truly excited by art. A girl told me that I should enter the Academy of Art. I made the choice and didn’t enter the academy. I had to go to preparatory classes to learn to draw. I met alcohol, nicotine and my future wife. She’s had the greatest impression on my life and work. She’s always supported me, and she’s always believed in my talent even when no one else agreed.’

Creative motto
Colour becomes the content and the painting becomes an abstraction with a few or one acting element. The bright colours, reduced to two or three, draw the viewer`s attention in each work. The artist uses the basic colours of the colour spectrum- blue, yellow and red- and their complementary colours – orange and green. Large areas of colour, with only lines within, increase dynamism and illusion of movement. The artist`s subject view of nature is revealed in using pure areas of colour, the white area emphasizing the intensity of colours, and soothing bluish green shades. Vivid colourfulness, intensity of shades, surface handling and juxtaposition of colours create the depth of the paintings and light effects which inspire the viewer to enter a dialogue with the author.

Vadim Markevics
Artist Vadim Markevics was born 26th of November 1969 in Riga.
Aged 13, travelling with parents he visited old castle in Edole, Latvia, where that time was summer residence of Academy of Arts.
Immersed to creative atmosphere he realised that painting is incredible language whereby you can share with the world your own perception of beauty which sometimes is impossible to express by the words. Buying a pencil and paper at rural shop it became clear- it is his lifework. And a year later he visited castle being the student of Junior School of Arts at the Academy.
1987 he went to the Lyceum of Arts and Restoration in St. Petersburg and got access to the grand artists’ works, learned methods and techniques of past masters. At the meantime it became obvious that the picturesque technique of Early Netherlandish painting is the tool whereby any dream can turn into reality.
Vadim’s works differ by jewelry precision in details and composition, and also by the absolute colour vision.
The main source of inspiration for him is communication with nature at all its diversity.
-Since 1994 his works are being exhibited in the State Museum of Modern Arts in Minsk (Belarus), some of them permanently
-Since 1996 he started to do personal exhibitions in Riga
-1996 exhibition in the Chamber of Commerce of the Russian Federation.
-1997 in the Cultural Center of the Embassy of the Russian Federation in Helsinki (Finland)
-2002 participation at the international exhibition in Köln (Germany)
-2004 exhibition at the Hotel Ridzene
-2005 personal exhibition Moscow House in Riga
- 2012 personal exhibition in Liepaja, Latvia
-currently the artist is working on new collection
